Annual World Contraception Campaign Day

The world Contraception day is a global annual campaign centered on the vision that every pregnancy is wanted. The campaign was launched in 2007 with a mission to improve awareness of contraception and to enable women and young people to make informed choices on their sexual and reproductive health.

As part of the activities to commemorate this day, CWHAD’s Executive Director, Mrs Helen Odega, on behalf of the State Chairman, led a delegation of the Rivers State Family Planning Advocacy Working Group (FPAWG) on an advocacy visit to her Excellency, the Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Dr. (Mrs.) Ipalibo Harry Banigo.

Our mission is to advocate for enabling policy environment for Family Planning implementation and increased funding for Family Planning in the State; and to amplify voices for Family Planning through the media,Religious and Traditional leaders.

Speaking in support of Family Planning as a strategy for reducing maternal mortality, the National Family Planning Champion, Her Excellency, Dr. (Mrs.) Banigo encouraged Rivers women to avail themselves of the Family Planning services and commodities provided by the State in various health facilities, while also pledging her support to the FPAWG’s mission. She also commended The Challenge Initiative (TCI) for their continued financial and technical support to the FPAWG.
